ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A two-year reconstruction project on a massive outdoor staircase near the New York state Capitol has been completed.

The so-called Grand Staircase is on the opposite side of the Empire State Plaza from the Capitol. It leads to the building housing the State Museum and doubles as festival seating in the summer.

The granite steps and exterior marble panels needed to be removed temporarily to replace waterproofing material. The steps now boast new railings and energy-efficient LED lights.

The work was done in time for the start of the summer concerts at the plaza.
