HOUSTON (WCMH/AP) — Police say a Houston-area teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy who impregnated her has turned herself in.
An arrest warrant was issued for 24-year-old Alexandria Vera, who was an English teacher in the Aldine School District. The boy was an 8th-grade student she met last summer. NBC affiliate KPRC-TV reports Vera turned herself into authorities Wednesday morning.
According to KPRC, court documents said Vera admitted to conducting a sexual relationship with the student since last September. Vera told investigators the relationship grew, and the two continued to have sex until she became pregnant with the boy’s baby in January.
Court documents show she was then introduced to his family as the boy’s girlfriend, that his parents didn’t object. Documents say she also told a school district investigator they were “very supportive and excited” when she disclosed her pregnancy.
According to the probable cause document, she aborted the pregnancy after Child Protective Services showed up at school in February to question her and the student about their relationship. The DA’s office said Vera denied the relationship then.
School officials say she was removed from the school and placed on leave in April.
CNN affiliate KTRK reports Vera faces a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child. Her bond has been set at $100,000.
