Woman rescued after falling down cliff near Thacher State Park after crash

NEW SCOTLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A car accident resulted in a rope rescue near Thacher State Park Tuesday night.

Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, a car accident took place in the area of Thacher Park Road and Beaver Dam Road in the town of New Scotland. According to Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, a female driver crashed into a guardrail and was trying to get to a nearby home to ask for help when she fell down a cliff.

Several rescue crews were called to the scene to assist. Between 40 and 50 personnel from surrounding areas responded.

The woman was airlifted to Albany Medical Center in a lot of pain. Apple could not speak on her condition Tuesday night.

He said alcohol was found in the woman’s car, but Apple could not say if she was driving under the influence.
