SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A judge has ruled that a man accused of burying a man alive next to a dead woman is fit to stand trial.
It was one of the more gruesome cases to hit the Capitol Region.
The man was found alive in the basement of a Schenectady apartment after police were called in for a welfare check. A strong, rotten odor led them to the body of the woman.
Police arrested Harold Ortiz.
Police say at the time, Ortiz had spent the last 17-years in prison and was released only two months before the incident.
A trial date has not yet been set.
