PETA calls for investigation after death of zebra

PALENVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – PETA is calling on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to investigate the death of a missing zebra.

Zulu went missing from the Bailiwick Animal Park in the Catskill last week. Her body was found on Monday in the Kaaterskill Wild Forest.

The DEC believes Zulu fell off a cliff.

PETA issued the following statement:

“This zebra’s sad death is yet another example of why wild animals should never be held captive, and her escape is no surprise given Bailiwick Animal Park’s alleged long history of violating federal animal-welfare laws.”

The zebra’s owner wants to thank everyone; residents, the DEC, State Police and sheriff deputies that did their best to find her.

Environmental Conservation Officers have contacted officials from the USDA and they are already investigating the incident.
