ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say an Albany woman has pleaded guilty to burglarizing a complex where senior citizens live, on multiple occasions.
Several members of local law enforcement were recognized for solving the string of serial burglaries at the South Mall Towers apartment complex.
Police say on separate dates in November and December of 2015, 42-year-old Maria Sanchez of Albany unlawfully entered the apartments at South Mall Towers at 101 South Pearl Street in the City of Albany and stole items from several senior residents.
Authorities say Sanchez intentionally damaged electronic lock keypads in order to gain access to the apartments. Officials say she stole a flat screen TV, coin collections, and a computer monitor among other items.
On April 21 Sanchez was sentenced to 9 years in State Prison after previously pleading guilty to one Count of Burglary in the Second Degree, a Felony. Police say she was also ordered to pay restitution to the victims for the items that were not recovered.
Members of the Albany Police Department and Albany County District Attorney’s Office were acknowledged for their work on the case at a ceremony at the apartment complex in Albany.
