ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Local law enforcement was honored on Tuesday for their bravery.
The ceremony was held at the College of Saint Rose.
Laura Deming said someone called 911 to say he was calling in sick to work. But Deming sensed something was wrong, and she kept talking to him after he said there was an emergency.
When officers responded, that man and his girlfriend were being held hostage at gunpoint.
“That’s what basically our job is to listen to the callers to see if there’s any type of distress in their voices and to keep them calm,” Deming said.
Deming was given the Telecommunications Specialist of the Year Award for her quick thinking.
