(NEWS10) – A growing number of companies in the UK are offering their employees “paw-ternity” leave for new pet owners.
Paw-ternity allow employees to take time off to care for their pets.
The New York Post reports that pet insurer Petplan found nearly five percent of new pet owners in the UK were offered time off.
Time off varies among the companies offering paw-ternity leave. Mirror Online says that some offer a few hours off while others offer as much as several weeks of paid time off.
According to the Humane Society of the United States, about 65 percent of U.S. households own a pet.
