PORT HENRY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say a woman is being charged for allegedly setting a Dollar Store on fire where she worked.
Authorities say on May 10 around 10:20 p.m., Essex County 911 received a report of a structure fire at the Dollar General Store located at 4375 Main Street, Port Henry.
Fire departments from Port Henry, Moriah, Mineville, and Westport responded to the scene as well as members of the New York State Police, Essex County Emergency Services, and Moriah Police Department.
After a joint investigation, a suspect was developed and a Dollar General employee was arrested; 49-year-old Lisa Demar of Moriah for one count each of Arson in the second degree and Reckless Endangerment in the first.
Demar was arraigned in the Town of Moriah Court before Town Justice Carpenter, and remanded to Essex County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
She is scheduled to reappear before the court on a later date for a felony hearing.
Further investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
