ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – It was the final home game for the Albany Devils in the Calder Cup playoffs.
The Devils took a big hit earlier in the day on Thursday when Dan Kelly was suspended 10 games for an illegal check to the head of a Toronto forward in Game 4.
They went into the game with the series tied at two and without one of their top defensemen.
But the Devils dropped their final home game of the series 5-1.
“I thought we made some turnovers trying to make some cute plays tonight, which you can’t do against this team,” Devils head coach Rick Kowalsky said. “We got to play a simple game, and part of that is we’re missing some key offensive guys as well.”
“We did have some opportunities in the first, I thought, that we could have capitalized on, but that’s the game, and they didn’t go in, so we move on here,” Devils forward and captain Rod Pelley said.
The Devils trail the Marlies three games to two as the series now shifts back up to Toronto.
Albany will need to win the next two straight games to advance.
