WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The house involved in a suspicious fire on Third Avenue in Watervliet last Thursday night has been demolished and the community is looking to donate items like shoes and clothing.
State fire investigators say the fire started in a vacant home and then spread to a neighboring house minutes later. Police broke down the doors of the occupied home and were able to wake up everyone inside and evacuate them to safety. They were also able to rescue a cat from the smoldering building.
Seven people have been displaced by the fire, and are now receiving help from the Red Cross. Some members of the community have also set up a couple of ways to donate to the victims of last week’s fire. First donations are being accepted at the Watervliet Civic Center starting at 8:30 a.m.
The following are sizes for those involved:
9th grade girl:
She plays volleyball, basketball, & softball.
She wears small & medium shirts, size 8 womens shoe (6.5/7 mens also), size 6 pants.
6th grade boy:
He wears medium/large shirts, size 9 shoes, and 28-31 pant size.
Mom wears medium shirts, size 10 shoes, size 9 pants.
Dad wears x-large shirts, size 11 shoes, and size 36 pants.
There will also be a fundraising breakfast Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Watervliet Senior Center, the proceeds benefit the families involved.
