SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) –Schenectady Police have made arrests in connection with Sunday morning’s shooting on Turner Ave.
Detectives have charged Khalik Martin, 38, of Schenectady with one count of Attempted Murder in the 2nd, a felony, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a misdemeanor, and one count of Menacing in the 2nd, a misdemeanor.
Detectives have also charged Sharon Womack, 32, of Schenectady with one count of Hindering Prosecution in the 2nd, a felony.
Womack is accused of giving aid to Martin by driving him away from the scene after he had shot his victim.
The victim’s age and identity are still not being released.
More charges are possible as the investigation continues.
Police said the shooting happened around just after 4:30 a.m. on the 2700 block of Turner Ave in Schenectady. They say the shooting was a continuation of an altercation that occurred in the Town of Rotterdam and continued onto Turner Ave.
Police said Martin fired several rounds from a shotgun and hit the victim at least once in the chest.
According to police, Martin fled the scene in his car and was followed by the victim, despite his injuries. During the chase, police say the victim intentionally struck the Martin’s fleeing car several times, eventually lost control of his car and crashed into the ravine near Rotterdam Square Mall.
The victim was treated at Ellis ER and transported to Albany Med with what officials consider non-life threatening injuries.
