COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Lanes near exit 2W on I-87 are back open after a late night accident on Sunday closed them for hours.
Police say on May 8 a pedestrian was killed after he was struck by a tractor trailer in the southbound lanes near the exit 2 area of I-87 in the Town of Colonie.
He is being identified as 26-year-old Andrew Rosenbaum of Colonie. Officials say he was struck while in the roadway by a southbound tractor trailer from Ontario driven by 60-year-old Roy Daniel of Quebec.
Attempts to revive Rosenbaum by responding Troopers and the Town of Colonie EMS were unsuccessful.
The investigation of the incident is continuing, and includes statements from witnesses which indicate that Rosenbaum deliberately placed himself in the roadway and into the path of the tractor trailer.
No tickets or charges have been lodged in connection with the incident and the middle and rightmost lanes of I-87 were closed for approximately 6 hours to allow officials to process the scene.
