ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – We are getting ready for the upcoming Law Day 5K against Domestic Violence. NEWS10 have some inspiration to start running from the Albany County Bar Association.
The Albany County Bar Association is getting ready for its 22nd “Law Day 5K” next week.
And we are getting ready to run here at the Crossings. This is where the 5K is going to take place. We spoke to the President of the Albany County Bar Association, Dan Coffey.
“The Albany County Bar Association started this race back in 1994, so this is our 22nd year. We have a separate foundation that gives out grants to domestic violence entities, trying to help give back to the community and raise awareness about this important cause,” said Coffey.
We also spoke to Jessica Brand, a Pro Bono lawyer with the Albany Bar Association. She’s also with STEM.
“STEM stands for Strong Through Every Mile and we are a group that trains women who are victims and occasionally men to run 5K races. We use the couch to 5K program, an eight week training program. We train three times a week and by the end of the program we hope all our participants can cross the finish line and since 2013 we’ve had about 50 women and a couple of men cross the line with STEM. So it’s an important organization,” said Brand.
