TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Troy Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred late Thursday night.
“We arrived on scene and there were actually three civilians there working on her,” Troy Police Cpt. Dan DeWolf said.
DeWolf said the 30-year-old woman was rushed to Albany Medical Center where she underwent surgery. She is listed in stable condition.
Police spoke with the victim to gain more information on her attacker, and DeWolf said police will also be reviewing surveillance footage.
“There’s an awful lot of video downtown between city cameras, private companies, and Russell Sage,” he said.
Katie Chastain, of Troy, said the number of security cameras in the area is why she chose to live in the neighborhood.
“I usually feel pretty safe around here,” she said. “I keep an eye when I’m working late or something, but I would do that anywhere.”
But Chastain said she was disturbed to learn about the stabbing.
“There’s a women’s group that I was invited to join by my landlady for women who live in the area in Troy to help each other out and stuff, and I saw a notice there,” she said. “But I was like, well, that’s very close to me.”
DeWolf said police do not believe the stabbing was a random attack.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
