Officials break ground on Halfmoon solar energy project

HALFMOON, N.Y. (NEWS10) – State and local officials joined together Wednesday to mark the groundbreaking of the first shared renewable solar project in New York State.

The ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony on Cary Road in Mechanicville kicked off the construction of the community solar project.

The project was made possible by NYSERDA as part of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s NY-Sun Program, a $1 billion initiative to advance the scale-up of solar and move New York State closer to having a sustainable, self-sufficient solar industry.

Government officials say the Halfmoon Community Solar Project will provide the first opportunity for residents to participate in community-sited clean power generation and benefit from electricity cost savings.
