Scotia landmark Dairy Circus being demolished after massive fire

SCOTIA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A popular ice cream and snack bar in Schenectady County will be torn down.

A massive fire destroyed the Scotia landmark ‘Dairy Circus’ on Monday. Demolition is expected to begin either Friday or Saturday.

Investigators believe the fire was accidental and fueled by paperwork stored upstairs. NEWS10 spoke with the owner who says the family is trying to decide what to do next.

The mayor tells NEWS10 that what’s left of the Dairy Circus will have to come down. But, the owner says he’s still working to get the demolition permit sorted out, so it may not be until later Thursday morning or perhaps during the afternoon.

For those who travel Sacandaga Road, they do not plan of having to shut down any roads for the demolition so there shouldn’t be any traffic disruptions.

Dairy Circus was also a location used during the filming of the 2012 independent film “The Place Beyond the Pines” starring Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes.
