Schenectady’s Super Survivor Safyre Terry’s mother pleads not guilty to lying about 2013 fire

Jennica Duell

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The mother of Schenectady’s Super Survivor Safyre Terry was arraigned in Albany Federal Court on Wednesday.

Officials say 28-year-old Jennica Duell is accused of knowingly lying under oath about her actions and conversations she had with Robert Butler leading up to the deadly 2013 fire that killed Safyre’s father and three siblings.

Butler was Duell’s boyfriend at the time. He was charged with arson but the charges were later dropped given the false testimony.

Duell pleaded not guilty to all five counts. Duell’s lawyer requested that she be relocated back to Rensselaer County Jail, a move the Judge said he would look into.

Duell faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a possible $250,000 fine.
