Sharon Springs man accused of using kid to break into Schoharie County home

SHARON SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say a Sharon Springs man was arrested after he used a child to break into a home and steal an iPad.

Officials say 40-year-old Brandon Canning of Sharon Springs is accused of burglarizing a home in Sharon Springs in late March. Police say he entered the home by lifting a child into an unlocked window.

The child then unlocked an outside door for Canning at which point he entered the home and made off with an iPad device which he later was able to use then eventually destroyed.

Canning was charged with one count each of Criminal solicitation in the third degree, Burglary in the second degree, Criminal mischief in the fourth degree, Petit larceny, Computer trespass, Unlawful possession of personal identification information in the third degree, and Endangering the welfare of a child.

After Troopers consulted with the District Attorney’s Office Canning was issued appearance tickets.
