FORT HUNTER, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Tuesday is the 29th anniversary of the collapse of the Thruway Bridge over Schoharie Creek. Therefore we’re taking a look back at some vintage video.
In 1987 the bridge crumbled near Fort Hunter. Ten people were killed as five vehicles fell into the water. After the investigation, faulty design and poor maintenance by the state were to blame for the disaster.
To prevent further accidents, NY and the federal government have changed inspection regulations since. You can watch the actual collapse from that day in the video below.
