Folks ready to rally in Albany, taking stand against constitution pipeline

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Opponents of the constitution pipeline are taking a stand against the natural gas project.

Groups from across New York State will gather around 11:30 Tuesday morning before marching half a mile to the headquarters of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation on Broadway.

They will be calling on the governor to deny the required water quality permit for the constitution pipeline. Once they have that permit, the pipeline company would be able to start clearing trees along the route that stretches more than 120 miles from Pennsylvania to New York and into New England.

Leading the march will be landowners in its path, who would have their land taken from them through eminent domain. The pipeline company says the project would bring low-cost gas and create 1,300 construction jobs.

The pipeline company is hoping to get started on the project by the second half of 2017.
