LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – You can battle that cold weather Tuesday with some chili for lunch – all for a good cause.
Some area chefs are competing with New Horizons’ staff in a charity culinary showdown for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. NEWS10 ABC’s Heather Kovar was in Latham showing you how you can get a taste and get involved.
Chefs from around the Capital District including from Texas Roadhouse, Philly Bar and Grill, The End Zone Sports Pub and U Mundu E CA, will be competing against staff members from New Horizons Computer Learning Center in the 4th Annual Celebrity Chili Cook-Off. Jason Krolak is the owner.
“So our staff makes chili, then we invite local chefs and we put all of them in crock pots so you don’t know whose is whose, you taste them all, vote and the winner gets bragging rights,” said Krolak.
All proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to aid their work in researching blood cancers that affect children.
The event goes from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on 15 Cornell Rd., right off British-American Blvd.
It’s open to the public, you’re just asked to make a $10 donation to taste to raise money for cancer research. All money goes to the leukemia and lymphoma society. New Horizons will match all donations up to $1,000!
New Horizons is also collecting books for the Melodies Center for childhood cancer and blood disorders at Albany Med.
Once Krolak got involved, he realized this is about more than fundraising.
“When you see the research and the cures that are all natural so to speak, and the profound impact they have on curing the disease, it just makes you want to get involved that much more,” Krolak said.
If you haven’t’ made it out to any fundraisers like this, they say the great part of the leukemia and lymphoma foundation is that there are regional chapters you can get involved with to help support local research .
