ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – An infant who police said was severely beaten by her father has died.
Gabriella Jones was in critical condition at Albany Medical Center. Police said the 22-day-old infant was assaulted by her father.
Officials said 24-year-old Nicholas Jones admitted to slamming the tiny infant onto a couch, squeezing her, and dangling her by the leg. Gabriella suffered fractured ribs, fractured clavicle and brain damage, according to the Warren County District Attorney.
Jones was charged with Assault, Reckless Assault of a Child and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He is being held in Warren County Jail on $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
According to the District Attorney, Jones appearance in court on April 1 was waived pending grand jury action. Evidence will be prsented at a grand jury on April 8.
A possible indictment could come as soon as Monday, April 11
Additional charges could be filed following the baby’s death.
The baby’s mother, Nicole Parker, who was said to have been sleeping at the time of the alleged assault, is not facing any charges at this time.
