SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Arrests were made early Sunday morning after police responded to a call of shots being fired near 501 State St.
Around 2:22 a.m. officers responded to a fight outside of Nico’s Pizza at 441 State St.
As the crowd was dispersing, another fight broke out on Barret St, near Citizen’s Bank, were the shots were fired.
According to police two Schenectady men were involved in the incident, which are Ronald Diggs and Ramell Steward. Both men produced handguns and were shooting at a third party, endangering a large crowd and the police officers who were within feet of the incident.
Police say Steward was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit and Diggs was found a short distance from the scene and taken into custody without incident.
The two guns used in the crime were recovered. Steward was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, a felony, one count of Menacing 2nd, a misdemeanor, one count of Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd, a misdemeanor and one count of Resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor.
Diggs was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.
A third person Damian Bethea was also arrested and charged with one count of Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd, a misdemeanor and One count of Resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor.
All three men are currently being held in city lockup and were arraigned Sunday morning.
