CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (AP) – A western New York woman faces 25 years in jail for bludgeoning her boyfriend with a ceramic statue.
Debra Haynes-Thomas of Buffalo pleaded guilty to manslaughter Thursday in the death of 56-year-old Peter Wiepert in his home in the suburb of Cheektowaga.
Investigators say the 48-year-old woman admits to striking Wiepert multiple times in the head with a 1-by-2-foot statue of a German shepherd as he was falling asleep after an argument in November. Police found his body in his bed.
Haynes-Thomas was arrested a few days later at a Rochester-area hotel. She’s scheduled to be sentenced in May.
