ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York’s trout and salmon fishing season is almost here.
In another sign of warmer days to come, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that the fishing season for trout and salmon begins April 1.
State environmental officials plan to stock more than 4 million fish this year, including 2.3 million catchable-size fish and nearly 2 million yearlings which will be catchable in future years.
Cuomo says the state is home to some of the best fishing opportunities in the nation and encourages residents and visitors alike to participate.
The state recently spent $8 million improving hatcheries around the state and has invested another $6 million in boating and fishing access facilities over the past five years.
