SCHENECTADY, NY (NEWS10) – Police say 27-year-old Jose Manuel Cruz-Reyes was arrested Friday by the U.S. Marshalls for his alleged involvement in a double murder that happened on December 7, 2012 in Puerto Rico.
Cruz-Reyes was arrested in Schenectady early Friday morning. He was caught by members of the Regional Fugitive Task Force as he was leaving his job, the Brickman Group Landscaping Company.
About ten days ago, the Regional Task Force in Albany got information from their counterparts in Puerto Rico that Cruz-Reyes was possibly living in Schenectady under an assumed alias. Task force members began to follow up on the lead and found the information to be credible.
After a number of interviews were done Friday morning, Cruz-Reyes was arrested.
The arrest of Cruz-Reyes comes more than three years after he was formally charged with the murders of two individuals in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Cruz-Reyes is accused of shooting and killing both 33-year-old Jason Rivera-Couvertier and 28-year-old Elvin Rivera-Rivera. The brother of Cruz-Reyes was also charged in the murder and he has been in custody since just after the shootings.
Cruz-Reyes is now in the custody of the Schenectady Police where he will be charged as a Fugitive from justice. He will now await extradition from Puerto Rico.
