GREENVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say an 11-year-old boy is accused of trying to start a fire in the bathroom of an upstate New York school.
State police say the fire had occurred during school hours on Monday in Greenville Central School’s middle school wing.
Investigators say the Medusa boy would have been charged with attempted arson if he was an adult.
The boy has been released to his parents and is scheduled to appear in family court.
On Monday, March 21, 2016, the administration learned that a Middle School student had attempted to light toilet paper on fire in a boy’s bathroom in the Middle School. The Middle School Principal immediately commenced an investigation to determine what had occurred.
A Middle School student was identified as the likely student involved in the situation. The NYS Police were immediately contacted and continued the investigation. The student is suspended from school. The District is continuing to cooperate with the State Police and their investigation.
It was determined that no actual fire was ever started nor was there any need for an evacuation of the building. The District takes all situations such as this very seriously to protect the health and safety of our students and staff.
