QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say they caught a man with heroin after driving erratically, speeding through a school zone and almost hitting a Time Warner van before fleeing from police on foot with a female passenger.
Police say on March 2 the Warren County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23-year-old Matthew Esser of Queensbury for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree along with numerous vehicle and traffic law charges.
Just before midnight police say they spotted Esser operating a 2003 Chevrolet eastbound in the turning lane, passing other vehicles in the eastbound lane on Main St., Queensbury.
Police say Esser passed a cop car and turned abruptly in front of another vehicle in the eastbound lane and pulled into the Dunkin Donuts parking lot.
Then a plastic baggie was thrown from Esser’s vehicle.
Police say Esser sped onto Caroline St., turned left onto Garner St. and into the city on Third Ave., passing through stop signs and through the school zone of Big Cross St. at a high rate of speed. Esser passed the stop sign at Third and South St. where he almost collided with a Time Warner van, police say.
Esser then stopped on South near Second St. and fled on foot with a female passenger.
The female passenger was caught on foot a few moments later by the patrol officer. A description of Esser was called out and he was found a short time later back near the Dunkin Donuts store by Glens Falls Police. Police found the bag that was thrown – it was heroin.
Esser was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a felony. Police say he was also charged with numerous vehicle and traffic law charges for both Queensbury and Glens Falls.
Esser was arraigned in the Glens Falls City Court and remanded to the Warren County Jail on $5,000.00 cash bail.
