NEW YORK (AP) — The lawyer for a New York City taxi driver accused of a fatal hit-and-run accident says her client believed he struck a pothole.
John Bangura was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident at his arraignment Sunday.
The Daily News (http://nydn.us/1Re2MK6 ) reports that the 68-year-old man’s attorney says Bangura thought he had hit a pothole at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Police say 44-year-old Kenya Flores of the Bronx was lying in the roadway when she was hit by the yellow cab on East 16th Street.
It was not clear why she way lying in the street.
Bangura’s lawyer says she wants more information. She says something led to the woman lying in the street before the accident.
