SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — For four decades Bob Farquharson’s love of theater has led to countless volunteer hours keeping the Schenectady Light Opera Company, or SLOC, running. He’s greatly admired.
“How he does it, the time he invests in it, the passion he invests in it,” said Tom Della Sala.
Bob carries out SLOC’s mission helping others experience the performing arts. Our Capital Hero supervises and mentors students with special needs from Wildwood and Schenectady ARC as they maintain this century old building and help with fundraising.
“Helping them, see what they can do and can they develop to a career,” Bob explained.
In return the students enjoy free performances in the converted church.
“They feel valued and appreciated for their work sills and bob makes you feel that way,” said Lori Birmingham.
That leads to meaningful job opportunities elsewhere enhancing their lives.
“It builds their self-esteem, they collaborated as a team, the kids just loved him,” said Valerie Andreoli.
