Two people taken to the hospital after a car versus motorcycle accident in Claverack

CLAVERACK, NY (NEWS10) – Columbia County Sheriff’s reported Friday morning at around 7:41 a.m. to a car versus motorcycle personal injury accident on St. Route 23 at the intersection with Hover Road in the Town of Claverack.

Deputies found that a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 67-year-old Matthew Spurge of Hudson, NY was traveling eastbound on State Route 23 behind an uninvolved vehicle turning right onto Hover Road.

The motorcycle passed the uninvolved vehicle and hit a 2010 Toyota Sedan driven by a 19-year-old of Claverack, who pulled out from Hover Road turning west onto State Route 23.

The motorcycle struck the vehicle head on in the driver’s door and was thrown off the bike.

Spurge was taken Greenport Rescue Squad to Albany Med for leg and shoulder injuries. The 19-year-old was taken to Columbia Memorial for a hand injury.

The driver of the motorcycle was issued a ticket for improper passing and the driver of the Toyota was issued a ticket for Failing to Yield Right Away at an intersection.
