AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – An Amsterdam man was arrested on drug charges while he was wanted on a parole warrant in Pennsylvania.
Israel Ruiz, of Amsterdam, was wanted on a felony parole warrant in Pennsylvania. Police said he was spotted in the East Main Street area of the city on Wednesday.
A detective patrolling the area spotted Ruiz as a passenger in a vehicle. According to police, Ruiz fled when he saw police approaching the vehicle.
The 25-year-old was caught after a foot chase. During his arrest, he was found to be in possession of a large quantity of heroin packaged for sale and cash.
He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree and Resisting Arrest.
He was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court and sent to the Montgomery County Jail without bail.
