Surveillance video of Native Dancer statue vandalism released

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Surveillance video shows the damage that was done to the Native Dancer statue in Congress Park.

In the early morning of November 20, two men can be seen climbing on top of the statue’s base. Then they forcibly rock the horse from side-to-side as if they are trying to rip it off the platform.

Then, before leaving the camera’s view, they kick out the lights that illuminate the statue.

Both Kenneth Martin and Julius Simmons pleaded guilty last week to criminal mischief and admitted to damaging the statute. The court ordered they complete 250 hours of community service and pay over $3,200 to cover the cost of repairs.

The repairs were quickly made after the crime.
