SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Schools across New York are teaming up for a statewide day of action.
Teachers, parents and students will be at Lincoln Elementary School in Schenectady on Thursday to send their message.
The rally is set to kick off around 7:15 a.m. The school, as well as Hamilton Elementary in Schenectady is considered by the state to be struggling. They must improve within two years or else an outsider, otherwise known as an independent receiver will come in and take over operations.
So this message is intended for both the State Legislature and the Governor. They’re calling for more school funding, replacing the idea of receivership with community schools and ending excessive testing.
Elsewhere in New York State, advocates will be wearing t-shirts, picketing, marching and holding candlelight vigils.
