ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Albany Sheriff Deputies say they’ve arrested a man from Rensselaer for allegedly having sexual contact with a 15-year-old boy.
Authorities say 35-year-old Joel Harrington of Rensselaer was spotted on February 28 at the Stephen P. Wallace Town Park in the Town of New Scotland after the park was closed.
Sheriff’s Deputies identified the driver and the passenger as a 15-year-old male.
Throughout the investigation, authorities learned that Harrington met the 15-year-old through a social network app called “Grinder” and that he did engage in oral sexual conduct with the 15-year-old back in January.
Sheriff’s Investigators executed a search warrant at Harrington’s home and seized a computer and multiple tablets.
Police say he was charged with Criminal Sexual Act in the third degree and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a child.
Police say he was arraigned and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility with no bail. An order of protection was issued for the 15-year-old male victim.
The investigation is ongoing and additional criminal charges are possible.
