MELROSE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A major car accident happened on Saturday on Rt. 40 in Melrose, which resulted with a child being sent to the hospital with two broken arms.
Officials say a driver who was under the influence of a controlled substance, passed out and crossed over into incoming traffic on Rt.40.
According to Melrose Fire Assistant Chief Dom Pasinella, the driver was headed south and a minivan heading north, which had three people, including the child, collided head on.
The child was taken to Albany Medical Center with broken arms; the mother and the other occupant in the minivan were transported to Albany Medical Center also.
The driver who allegedly was under the influence was taken to the hospital with “severe internal bleeding.”
