Charlotte City council broaden transgender rights

CHARLOTTE, N.C  (NEWS10) – The city council of Charlotte, North Carolina, has passed a law expanding protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The controversial measure would allow transgender people to choose restrooms corresponding to the gender with which they identify.

About 140 people showed up to express their opinion on the issue before the council vote.

North Carolina’s governor has called the measure a threat to public safety and warns the state’s general assembly may step in.
