Debit cardholders are being scammed via text messaging

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – SEFCU wants all their customers to know about a “text scam”.

According to SEFCU officials the text says your debit card is locked and tells you to call a number, when you call the number you are then asked to input your full debit card number.

SEFCU wants to let customers know, that if you do receive a  text, delete it immediately and if you did respond to the “text scam” and gave your debit card number, please report the card as lost or stolen and the bank will issue you a new one.

SEFCU says they have not been breached and personal information has not been compromised.

It is unknown how the phone numbers were received.

Call 800-727-3328 if you responded to the “text scam”.
