How to talk about saving money for retirement

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Many of us are worried about aging parents and whether or not they’ll have enough money to retire. But, bringing up the topic of money can sometimes be a tough thing to talk about with your parents.

Mickey Powell, the founder of Powell Financial Partners, explains a few ways to tactfully bring up the topic.

“Money can be an emotional issue for a lot of people. You want to approach your parents in a respectful, loving way,” explains Powell. “They might have a lot of wisdom about a lot of things, but sometimes they may need help when it comes to figuring out their financial affairs.”

A couple of questions to ask:

  1. What are your goals for retirement?
  2. Do you have any dreams for that season of your life?
