LANSINGBURGH, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The family is back gathering whatever belongings they can salvage and crews have spent their whole morning boarding up the windows.
The scene was much different Thursday night when flames tore through the two family home.
A neighbor across the street caught the flames on video, tearing through 174 Fifth Avenue in Lansingburgh just before 11 p.m. Thursday night. Screams of panic can be heard as firefighters battled heavy fire on the first floor which was vacant and under renovation.
The building manager showed us pictures of his newly finished wood floor which is now destroyed. The second floor apartment has extensive heat and water damage.
Everyone was able to get out safely, but a woman who lived there tells NEWS10ABC she fears that if her daughter hadn’t been leaving for work at that moment, that wouldn’t have been the case.
“I was headed out, grabbed my mom and my nephew and got out,” said Tiffany Abrams, Second Floor Tenant.
Firefighters say the flames started to spread to a neighboring home, melting the siding and creeping into the attic space. The power there had to be turned off and everyone who lived there was told to find somewhere else to spend the night.
Fire investigators will spend most of Friday combing through the debris looking for clues as to how this fire started.
