Man rescued after falling through thin ice on Ballston Lake

BALLSTON LAKE, NY (NEWS10) – At about 2:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon, a man was rescued after he rode his dirt bike on the frozen lake and fell through thin ice in approximately 20 to 40 feet of water around 100 yards from the shore line.

In a combined effort by State Police, Saratoga County Sheriff’s, Ballston Lake Fire Department, and local residents, 66-year-old Richard Lapierre was saved with a rope and pulled to safety.

Lapierre was in the water for at least 15 minutes and was then taken to Ellis Hospital for evaluation of hypothermia.

A dog that was owned by the 911 caller also entered the ice and fell through the water and was rescued by a trooper.
