College student from Virginia detained in North Korea

CHARLOTTESVILLE, V.A. (NEWS10) — A University of Virginia student is at the center of an international dispute.

North Korea announcing Friday it is holding Otto Fredierick Warmbier prisoner for what it calls a “hostile act” against the government.

Warmbier reportedly entered North Korea on a tourist visa.

The Chinese travel company that organized his trip says he was detained back on January 2nd.

The U.S. embassy in Seoul says it is aware of the reports of the student’s arrest.
