ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A Latham man was arrested for allegedly making a false incident report about a local school in order to rob a bank.

Zachary Dennis, 27, was arrested and charged with Robbery in the First Degree, Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, and Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree.

Police said Dennis called 911 and reported a false threat at the Mohonasen High School campus on January 6. As a result, the high school and Draper Middle School were placed on lockout while police investigated.

Approximately five minutes after making the phone call, Dennis entered the Trustco Bank on West Campbell Road and handed the teller a note that demanded cash and implied he had a gun, police said. He then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Dennis was arraigned and sent to the Schenectady County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
