TROY, NY (NEWS10) – It was just around 9 AM Sunday morning when a homeowner noticed his basement started to flood. When he stepped outside, water was completely covering Second Avenue.
“I got a call from my daughter saying hey the streets flooding. She lives a few blocks away saying yeah it didn’t rain last night”, said homeowner Eugene Stephenson.
The Department of Public Utilities is currently working to drain the water which is has been a very slow process.
This water main break is a very big problem for the city of Troy because many businesses had to temporarily close their doors. There was also no water in the fire hydrants.
As crews worked to drain the water, several homes did not have water. For those that did, the city asked everyone to limit the amount of water they use until further notice.
“Like I said it’s not just this one instance it’s every year something about the drainage this whole area”, said Stephenson.
I was told by homeowner this is not the first time flooding has taken place here. However, this is the first time it’s happened due to a water main break.
