COHOES, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Cohoes Police Department says they’ve arrested a 26-year-old for allegedly sexually abusing and choking a female victim.
According to police, Christopher Carovillano of Ontario Street in Cohoes was arrested for sexual abuse in the first degree and criminal obstruction of breathing, a felony and a misdemeanor.
The charges stem from an investigation into a domestic incident that occurred at Carovillano’s residence in the evening hours of December 27 between Carovillano and a 22-year-old female victim, with whom the Carovillano was in a relationship.
Polcie say Carovillano and the victim were arguing over relationship issues. The incident escalated and Carovillano became physically violent toward the victim. During the course of the incident, Carovillano allegedly had forcible sexual contact with the victim and choked the victim.
After a week long investigation, which included numerous interviews, consulting with medical staff and processing evidence, Carovillano was charged with the crimes.
Carovillano was booked and arraigned on the charges and bail was set at $25,000. He is currently employed as a language teacher in the Troy School District.
The school district released a statement saying: “The alleged incident took place outside of school property and no students were involved. The employee will remain on administrative leave until further notice.”
