ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A new firearm safe storage law will be put into effect in Albany Thursday.

The law requires that guns be locked and safely stored when not in the owner’s immediate possession or control.

Mayor Kathy Sheehan and several other local officials will be speaking about it at 10 a.m. at Albany City Hall.

The Albany Police Department will also begin providing free gun locks to those who need them.
