DELMAR, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A group came together Monday night to protest Islamophobia in the area.
Members of “Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace” were out in the streets holding up signs and trying to draw support for their cause.
The group said Muslims are being persecuted and discriminated against across the United States and the world.
“I’m afraid they aren’t very safe, and I’d like to express, you know, my fellowship and kinship with them and hope it helps them,” protestor Hazel Landa said.
Albany County passed a proclamation at the beginning of the year against Islamophobia. It states that comments and violence against Muslim people or institutions won’t be tolerated.
The Schenectady City Council also passed a similar measure.
