ROCHESTER, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A New York ex con has been arrested and accused of planning a New Year’s Eve attack at a bar in Rochester.
25-year-old Emanual Lutchman has been charged with attempting to provide material support to terrorists.
A federal complaint says Lutchman is a self-professed convert to Islam who claimed to receive direction from an overseas Islamic state member and planned to carry out an attack at a bar in the Rochester area Thursday.
The FBI says Lutchman had an accomplice who was actually working for the agency and it says they bought knives and a machete for the attack.
The Governor released this statement Thursday saying “the arrest of Emanuel Lutchman is an important reminder of the new normal of global terrorism. Today law enforcement did their job well – but the challenges we face have never been greater, and it is incumbent on every citizen to be diligent and responsible.”
