Deliberation continues over proposed hike in Albany garbage collection fees

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — City leaders are talking trash Thursday morning.

Mayor Kathy Sheehan says an increase in garbage collection fees would generate $1.5 million, helping with budget costs and saving from making deeper cuts in other places.

If passed, those who own rental properties with two to four units would owe $180 per unit per year, but one unit in each building would be free.

Many owners say they have no choice but to pass that cost to their tenants.

The proposal will be voted on by the Common Council on Monday, January 4.
